The Department of Mechanical Engineering, UET Lahore has the distinction of being one of the two oldest institutes offering courses in this field since1921, when Maclagan Engineering College was established as a degree awarding institute. The department has since then gradually advanced the courses from undergraduate level to doctoral level.
Presently, upon successful completion of required courses and research work, following degrees are awarded to the eligible students:
-BSc (Hons.) Mechanical Engineering
-MSc Thermal Power Engineering
-MSc Mechanical Engineering Design
-PhD Mechanical Engineering
Besides above mentioned academic degree programs, the department offered undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering during (1996, 2001 - 2006), but due to rapid expansion in the infrastructure the divisions of IME and Mechatronics Engineering were upgraded to separate departments within the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
Presently the total number of students enrolled in all degree programs is about 1000.
